Curriculum Overview

Curriculum Intent Statement

At Aldborough our curriculum is designed to instil a love of learning, within themes that stimulate intellectual curiosity and create a sense of awe and wonder, through exploration and discovery.

We use the revised 2014 National Curriculum requirements for England as a strong foundation to deliver our own skills-based curriculum, which meets the needs of our learners. We seek to involve parents and carers in contributing to what and how their children learn in school.

We believe every child must master the basics of Maths and English as a vital foundation for developing knowledge and skills in other areas of the curriculum and their ultimate long-term success.

Every lesson at our school is a language lesson, and we put great emphasis on making cross curricular links so that children have enriched opportunities to acquire a very strong foundation and development of English from the moment they enter our school. The phonics scheme we use is Unlocking Letters and Sounds.

Learning in the classroom is supplemented by a wide range of extended opportunities after the school day. The activity programme varies from term to term, ranging from creative writing to sports, all run with the purpose of offering wider opportunities, further enhancing children’s experiences of learning, and promoting their positive dispositions as active and motivated learners.
