Attendance Winners

Congratulations to Firefly, Chipmunk, Lemur, Stingray, Barracuda and Shark classes who have won the attendance trophy over the past week.  They all achieved 100% attendance! Well done!

School Closure

Further to the announcement that the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will take place on Monday 19th September, this date has been confirmed as a bank holiday. This means that the school will be closed to all children and staff on Monday 19th September. Children should not come to school on this day.

The Council has opened up six sites for Books of Condolence and floral tributes. They are at Central Library, Hainault Library, Goodmayes Library, Wanstead Library, Woodford Green Library and Valentines Mansion. There will be a floral tribute site on South Lawn at Valentines Park (behind the mansion).

Buckingham Palace also has an online book of condolence for people to sign and share messages: https://www.royal.uk/

Royal Assembly

On Friday, the children took part in a whole school assembly looking back on the Queen’s reign. Both staff and children took time to come together and talk about the history of Her Majesty’s life. This week children are writing messages of condolence to add to a whole school book that we will send to Buckingham Palace.

Just last week we received a letter from Balmoral Castle on behalf of the Queen, thanking us for our Jubilee cards and celebrations. This will be proudly displayed in our main entrance.

Welcome back!

We are thrilled to be back at school and starting a new year of learning. Children have settled in very well and we thank you for helping make the start of term such a positive one. We would like to extend a warm welcome to the children and families who have joined us across the school this term and a special mention for our Reception children who have impressed us all so much with their confidence and resilience!

Please ensure your children wear full  school uniform including plain black shoes. Children should not wear hoop earrings and hairbands should be plain and dark in colour.

We have a small supply of second hand uniform at school. If you need any support with providing your child with any item of uniform, please do let us know and we would be happy to help provide this if we can.

Finally, please ensure you name your child’s belongings as this makes it much easier to reunite lost items with their owners.

We thank you for your cooperation.

Children's safety

Our priority each morning and afternoon is to ensure your children arrive and leave the school safely. To help us with this, we have a few polite reminders below:

Please ensure you do not block the gate or pavement with scooters, buggies and bikes. Once your child has entered the playground, we kindly ask you to move away from the gate to allow other children to enter safely.

We are almost at the end of the second full week, so hope morning routines are clearer for our families. Please can we ask that you only speak to staff members on the gate if it is urgent. Any other questions or messages please  email info@aldborough.net and someone will get back to you or pass your message on to the relevant staff member. This allows our staff to fully focus on the children entering the school and ensures no child leaves the playground unsupervised.

We ask that you do not call your child to come to you at the end of the day. We understand that it may take a little longer for your child to be passed to you, but our staff want to get to know you to ensure your child always leaves with the correct adult.

Please do not park over our local residents driveways. We want to ensure we keep a positive relationship with them.

We thank you for your understanding and support in helping us keep all of our community safe.

Gold School Games Mark!

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2021/22 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise the school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active. We are delighted to have been recognised for our success. Huge thanks go to Mr Odutolu for his enthusiasm and efforts to keep us  engaged in everything sporting!

Pup-date!

We have had a further ‘pupdate’ about Millie, year 2’s guide dog.

‘Puppy Raiser, Alison, has been practising some skills with Millie around the home, including 'food manners'. This is an important skill for Millie to master and means that she will not be distracted by food. Millie's a natural! She was quite happy to sit in front of a tube of her favourite treats and focus on Alison. Alison then                  rewarded her for her patience with a tasty nibble! Great work Alison and Millie! We're excited to share Millie's second Pupdate with you in October.’
