Early Years

We are proud to have designed and constructed a purpose built unit for Early Years education complete with a dedicated landscaped garden, which provides an ideal base for a high quality learning environment both indoors and outdoors.

We value the experiences children bring to the classroom and seek to help them to build on these, whatever their starting point. Children in our Early Years Unit learn through a balance of structured and playful opportunities for learning, which cover the seven areas of learning.

The Early Years curriculum at Aldborough provides children with a strong basis on which to continue their learning journey as they move throughout the school. In fact, many aspects of Early Years practice contribute to the principles of learning across our school.

At Aldborough we give particular focus to the teaching of phonics right from the start of Reception. This provides children with the necessary tools to enable them to be enthusiastic readers and writers, and again reflects our core aim of ensuring high quality outcomes for all. The phonics scheme we use is Unlocking Letters and Sounds.
